Retinue characters were first introduced in the Blackstone Fortress: Escalation expansion when our explorers discovered the battle servitor X-101 deep within the fortress. The Blackstone Fortress Annual adds four new retinue characters into the game – all were originally presented in White Dwarf but are now handily compiled here.
Let’s take a look at them, what they can do and how you can convince them to join your expeditions.
The Broggan Brothers
These two Ogryn brothers used to be in the Astra Militarum until the younger one, Gren, was facing court-martial. His older brother Dorg broke him out of his cell and they made their way to the Blackstone Fortress where they have both been in high demand as bodyguards.
To add the size and strength of the Broggan brothers to your expeditions, you first have to rescue Dorg from the Blackstone Fortress where he is being assailed by packs of Ur-ghuls. Once he’s safe, you have two very potent additions to your future adventures.
Penitent 707
Originally brought to the Blackstone Fortress by Taddeus the Purifier, Penitent 707 was thought lost within the labyrinth following one of the priest’s first forays to bring light into the darkness. Clearly, the Emperor still has plans for this sinner, since he has somehow managed to survive against the fortress’ almost endless threats.
To add the killing frenzy of the Arco-flagellant to your party you first have to crack the code to his pacifier helm so that you can control him. Once he’s under your command, you can unleash the howling berserker on the hostiles within the Blackstone Fortress.
Skarburn Zapdakka
The Flash Git has come to the Blackstone Fortress in pursuit of fame and fortune, firmly believing that if he finds enough loot then glory is bound to follow. Tales of his greed-fuelled rampages have now made their way back to Precipice.
If you convince him that joining you is the way to get the best loot then you get to add the devastating power of his snazzgun to your team. Dakka! Dakka! Dakka!
Whichever of the retinue characters you manage to add to your team, you’ll get some new tactical options for your future excursions and the quests to recruit them will offer you new challenges within the Blackstone Fortress.
