6 Face-melting Moments from Angels of Death

AnimationPreview May22 AoD Header

Since Warhammer+ launched on the 25th of August, each week has brought fantastic new content. Today’s new arrivals include the Loremasters looking at Archmage Teclis, a Citadel Colour Masterclass showing us how to paint fantastic-looking orruk flesh, and the fifth episode of Angels of Death. Here’s everything you’ll be getting as part of your Warhammer+ subscription this week.

Angels of Death has been a standout, a darkly stylish animated series following a handful of Blood Angels from the Sword of Baal, their stranded strike cruiser, as they descend to an imperilled world in search of their Captain.

The fifth episode – a 28-minute long midseason finale – is available right now, and you should be watching it already! We love it so much, we’ve collected six awesome moments from the series so far.

SPOILER ALERT: We’re not giving much away, but if you want to watch the episodes with fresh eyes, head on over to Warhammer+ and check them out first. Once you’re ready, scroll past the image for our top picks.

AngelsOfDeathHalfway Sep22 SpoilerWarning

1. Captain Orpheo Gets Rough with the Xenos

Blood Angels Captain Orpheo is a force to be reckoned with, leaving literal mounds of Genestealer Hybrids in his wake, as well as one of his arms – despite wearing full Terminator armour. His disappearance sends the

Sword of Baal

’s remaining Space Marines on a perilous journey to locate him, through a lot of sinister-looking ducts and nearly as many ambushes...

2. Chaplain Raphael Smashes the Enemy Assault

With the two groups of Blood Angels separated by a tricky drop pod assault and under heavy fire, the outlook is grim for Sergeant Kazarion’s squad until Chaplain Raphael arrives to beat back the enemy with the business end of his Crozius Arcanum and a whole heck of a lot of bolter rounds.

If you’ve ever wondered what a power weapon looks like when it meets xenos flesh, wonder no longer.

3. A Servo-arm is for More Than Just Fixing Things

With every other Blood Angel from a much-depleted company deployed to the surface of Niades, Techmarine Hadrael is the last Marine left aboard the Sword of Baal – not ideal when the ship faces a savage ambush from within.

And while the ship’s voidsmen-at-arms put up some resistance, Hadrael single-handedly demonstrates that Techmarines are just as capable as their peers in a fight as he cuts through the attackers even while holding a casual conversation over vox with the Shipmistress.

4. Anything is a Weapon if You’re Brave Enough

Shipmistress Livia commands unswerving authority from her crew, and she’s prepared to do whatever it takes when renegade ships begin to attack the rest of the fleet in orbit.

Targeting a colossal refuelling tanker sloshing with volatile promethium, she orders her gunners to open fire, engulfing the flotilla in a massive fireball, including her own ship, in a gimlet-eyed effort to even the odds.

5. It’s Chief Librarian Mephiston!

During a flashback into Sergeant Kazarion’s past, the Blood Angels’ legendary Chief Librarian arrives to impart some sage advice to a doubtful Space Marine about to begin a lonely vigil with the Deathwatch.

Carrying himself with all the gravitas – and creepiness – you’d expect of someone who’s beaten the Black Rage twice,* Mephiston questions Kazarion on his fears ahead of his service away from the Chapter.

6. Tyranids in Space Are Just As Bad as They Are on the Ground

Before it was stranded above Niades, the Sword of Baal was returning battered and bruised from a huge engagement against a fleet of Tyranid bio-ships. We once more witness Livia’s iron will and expert command as death and destruction echo all around, in a confrontation with a truly horrifying hive ship that seems set to doom them all.

Episode five is the halfway point in the epic Angels of Death saga, and the incredible second half isn’t far off. Until then, tune in every week as we add loads more content to Warhammer+ including original shows, animations, books, magazines, and more – so if you’re not yet subscribed, you can get in on the action right here.
