Blackstone Fortress – Our 10 Favourite Units for Warhammer 40,000

All of the models released as part of Warhammer Quest: Blackstone Fortress include Warhammer 40,000 rules, including the Guardian Drones, which we looked at yesterday. As we reach the final expansion for the game, it’s time for us to take a look back at some of our favourite models and why you need them in your army.

Let the loyalist lap dogs have their so-called “smash captains” – the Black Legion can field this awesome Chaos Lord armed with a thunder hammer. Not only is he devastating in his own right, but he improves all of your nearby units too.

If you want to let the galaxy burn, then you need Mallex.

Robots have a bit of a bad reputation within the Imperium, with Abominable Intellects banned across the galaxy. UR-025 isn’t like that, though – it’s a good bot. Promise.

Armed with an assault cannon and power claw, UR-025 is incredibly useful in both shooting and close combat. Any Imperial commander will find them very handy – or should that be claw-y? Just don’t ask too many questions about where his Tech-priest is…

It’s big, it’s bad, and it will absolutely tear its way through anything that you point it at – it’s the Ambull.

If you have an army built around ranged firepower, such as the T’au Empire, adding the Ambull to your forces will give you an excellent counter-charge option. Just remember to keep it well fed, lest it decide that your Ethereal looks tasty.

You’ve got the guns, you’ve got the close combat units, but your army is still missing a certain something – panache. Well, Janus has that in spades. He’s also pretty useful in a fight, with his range of esoteric weaponry.

His one downside is that he looks so debonair with his pipe that he could encourage the rest of your army to take up smoking.

Need a cheap option to round out a formation for your Chaos army? Look no further than the Cultists of the Abyss. This ragtag gang of worshippers are perfect for a cheeky objective grab.

Not only that – they’re ideal for the basis of a Helot Chaos Cult in Necromunda.

How can you even call yourself an Archon if your Drukhari raiding party doesn’t contain some Ur-Ghuls? Unleash them, let them use their Ferocious Charge ability, and then just sit back, soaking up the pain of your enemies.

What’s better than a Ratling causing mischief on the battlefield? A pair of Ratlings causing mischief on the battlefield! Not only can they sneak up on your enemies...

… But they can also make a run for it after taking a shot.

This pair is perfect for picking off those prime targets for your Astra Militarum force.

Anything that Janus Draik can do, Neyam Shai Murad can do just as well and on only one leg! She brings a withering hail of pistol fire.

But even better than that, her servo skulls reload her guns. Any army can learn a lot from this example of delegation.

Let’s not mess around here – the Dark Mechanicum is cool! The Negavolt Cultists are some of the first examples of Dark Mechanicum models that we’ve seen in the 41st Millennium, and not only do they look great, but they can fight too.

Stick them in your Chaos army and get zapping.

Nostalgic gamer? Tyranids player? Nostalgic Tyranids player? You need a Zoat!

Who are we kidding? Everyone needs a Zoat! And thanks to the Unaligned keyword, everyone can take one.

Obsidius Mallex, UR-025, Janus Draik, the Ur-Ghuls, the Negavolt Cultists, and Rein and Raus are available in Warhammer Quest: Blackstone Fortress. The Ambull is available in Warhammer Quest: Blackstone Fortress – The Dreaded Ambull.
